There has to be something in the water in Chicago. Russian Circles, REZN (also Leesburg!) and Trouble.
And many more greats, but also among them Pelican!
Instrumental post-metal heroes of the naughties, Pelican has been around for some time, and are still going strong.
Cocooning from their sludgy beggings, to be the standard-bearer of their genre. Pelican delivers a sentimental grooviness to the harsh riffs.
They encapsulate and nourish the lowest valleys to the tallest mountaintops in the sonic landscape they so masterfully paint.
At times it’s hard to see how they developed from their grindcore beginnings of Tusk, and at other times, it’s evident in their power, their ease of playing off of eachother.
Pelican is a true Chicagoan instrumental powerhouse!
