WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM

Setting American atmospheric black metal on the map, they continue to push the line for what separates doom, black metal and ambient music.

The grim sounding trio from Washington state is the icing on the cake for Desertfest Oslo 2024. Sure, they may not be stoner or desertrockers, but the dark ambient influences on their Cascadian black metal sets them apart from others in an ever growing forest of dark, gritty metal.

The effortless transitions from classic blast beats, fast paced black metal to the sluggish doom infused riffs and synth are stunningly pulled off.

The Weaver brothers have formed this band to an absolute powerhouse. Mixing the wet, cold bleakness of nature itself, with some gloomy dungeon synth interlaced with the freezing, raspy vocals and otherworldly guitars.

The fact that these guys are not from Norway, the black metal bedrock, should be shameful for us.

Setting American atmospheric black metal on the map, they continue to push the line for what separates doom, black metal and ambient music. Their latest EP, Crypt of Ancestral Knowledge, is ripe with virtuous pummeling build-ups, ethereal guitar and synth and a rawness in the vocal few others can deliver as consistently as these madlads.

Their sound sometimes feel like it’s conjured by some otherworldly being, more aligned with seiðr magic of the Viking-era, and it will transport you, if not physically, mentally to the realm the Weavers have created for us.

To get to witness this pagan wizardry take place at the inaugural Desertfest Oslo is an absolute pleasure and will surely bring the mountain magick of Cascadia closer then ever.
